Abstract

Information and communication technologies (ICT) provide efficient health care and improved
access to health resources and information. The first part of this paper defines the basic terms and concepts of
telematics and telemedicine. In the second part of this paper technological bases, standardization activities
and the reference architecture are being systematized. In the final part an ICT infrastructure for an integrated
regional health service network is being described, which is designed on the basis of open, multilayered
reference architecture and common components.
